Grand Canyon Dusk -process
2' x 4' Oil on canvas
in process
It's coming along..
Trying to get the right side foreground next,
and juggle the deepest shadow colors
with some glazing...
And it's too tempting to start fantasizing images
on top of the point: the wrapped Indian in a blanket ,
or maybe some Warrior yoga posture.
And then there's the juxtaposition icon:
a shopping cart.

Grand Canyon Process
I'm hoping to get through this in the next couple of weeks.
It's like putting a puzzle together. It feels great as areas
and colors click together. And while I'm doing it, I'm
already thinking of another Canyon painting. It's
such a great place, and painting there is the ultimate
plein air experience.

Surrey Hills
11" x 14" Oil on canvas on wood board
This has a ways to go, it's easy to see reviewing the photo.
That's why I take photos while I'm painting. You never know
if it will be complete on site or not. Turns out I rarely go back
into mine, but it would help in many cases!
We had a nice turnout on Wednesday with
Toni Perrin, Phil Koerper, Rodney Cobb,
Diane Scholar, Rita Goldner, Kitty Shannon,
Bud Olson, Bil Canfield and Nancy Taylor.

Boojum Tree
१२" x१२" oil on canvas
Painted at the Desert Botanical Gardens today in Phoenix AZ.
This is the founder's original home from 1939, Gertrude Divine Webster.
Her dream was, “First, we wish to conserve our Arizona flora
—fast being destroyed.
Second, we wish to establish plantings for students and botanists,
and third, we wish to make a compelling attraction.”
The boojum tree was planted in the first year. The boojum is taken
from Lewis Carroll's poem "The Hunting of the Snark".

The model was doing short poses and her hands were flailing a bit,
as she was trying to figure out what to do with them, and she finally
decided to just leave them in midair! It was funny as she accented
that pose, realizing it was OK to just LEAVE them.
I loved the opposite lighting on both sides,
with hands opposite as well.
