Hassayampa River Preserve ~ Morning Walk

5 x 7 inches Oil on birch veneer

$99. + S/H

Just north of Phoenix about an hour drive is
Wickenburg, and the Hassayampa River Preserve
is south of town
and quite the lovely place to paint
that the Nature Conservancy maintains
its grounds with the river habitat.
Wednesday a group of us went up for the morning
as the Arizona Plein Air Painters
are having a paint out today Sat Feb 28,
and hang a show of recent plein air.

(I meant to join last winter when
they were founded, but zeroed out
with deadlines. This will hopefully
be impetus to get it together! )

Tony ~ Portrait Study

5 x 7 inches Oil on birch veneer

Here's version #2 from
series of three of Tony in 20 minute studies
This one using thicker application of paint.
I guess I feel more confident with the colors
the second time in.
I also actually enjoy the surface of
birch veneer better too...smoother
and less resistance with brushwork.

$225. in gold frame + S/H

Cisco ~ Horse portrait

8 x 10 inches Oil on canvas board ~ Final

Better contrast, brightened up, and
simplified composition

in process ~
at the rail which gets eliminated and the bit of building

Well they are a moving target, but it was surely fun
to paint studies of horses.

The riders come locally on Sunday mornings,
tie up their horse and have coffee together, having
riden together earlier.

The owners of these horses came out
and rode off before I could get the pinto in.

Superstition Mts

11 x 13 inches oil on canvas on birch

Painting this weekend in two day plein air workshop
of Amery Bohling who had Jeremy Lipking as her guest
(his
figurative work is incredible).
Both of them are fabulous with the desert light.
My painting has some color she corrected for me,
so
many thanks Amery!

Amery keeps her paints to a minimum taking only 6 colors:
ultramarine blue, Alizarin crimson, cadmium light,
cadmium yellow lt, Indian yellow, and titanium white
(and sometimes thalo green)

Premixing colors after the start of the sketch

The Superstition Mountains has the Lost Dutchman's Park
and lots of hiking trails.

Looking Out Window -suggestions?

24" x 24" Oil on canvas

Face Detail

This was a portrait I painted the figure
with palette knife, but never really completed.
I didn't deal with the background so I'm open
to suggestions? I've added the window, but am open
to what is outside, and wonder
if anyone has some suggestions for the right side
behind the model? If your idea is selected, I'll
paint it in, and credit you with the idea on blog!
Here's and interesting portrait from
LA County Museum (LACMA)

by Mabel Alvarez
(United States, Hawaii, Oahu, 1891 - 1985)
Arabella with Calla Lillies, 1934
Painting, Oil on canvas, 40 x 30 in.

Country Sunset

5" x 7" Oil on canvas panel

$225. + S/H SOLD

We had our local art show here yesterday of
Artists of Scottsdale Ranch. I did a couple of quick
landscapes to include with the one from Sedona
I had done, so it wouldn't all be nudes or portraits!
