Goats at Hassayampa River Preserve

6 x 12 Oil on birch veneer SOLD

At the paint out, I was enthralled with the temporary
Boer goat guests! I had to make quick drawings of
them individually before painting, so I'd have
a complete reference by the end of my painting.

The Baker family from Settler Valley Ranch
were contracted by the Hassayampa River Preserve to
bring their herd of 75 goats and fencing to graze down
the area for fire prevention.

Did you know (from their web site): " Boer Meat Goats originated in South Africa and were first brought to the United States in the 1990's. The word Boer translates to English as 'farmer', so their name means 'farmer's goat'. Boer goats are primarily bred for meat and are being used very effectively in combination with cattle due to their preference for browse. "

Kind of a cute alternative for lawn maintenance no?
