Think I've gotten Picasa to hold my photos now on an external Hard Drive.  It seems to be able to edit, crop for posting on a blog.. My Photoshop crashed using Mt Lion OS 10.8.3  It's really more than anyone wants to know right?
As Rihanna nearly sang, "Shut up and Paint!"

Crashing Wave - #7113 by Candy Barr

16 x 20 inches Oil on canvas

No wifi in Maine while painting the last 2 weeks.  So will post the series of waves and rocks during high tide at various beaches.  Painted with the PAPME (plein air painters of Maine) on two occasions. NICE group!

The story of why I haven't posted in months is a saga really.  For starters my back really went out end of March.  And the short short version is grandson visit in LA, brother in Tulsa, Michael's son and family in CT,  my daughter Trillium and met Ben in NYC, computer program difficulty still between Aperture and iPhoto, and integrating them (or knowing how to use the external HD...that's really the saga part....), back to LA, then re entry into VERMONT for one week ...leak in roof, purging clothes closet, re ordering desk office area with closet, purging office... painting in Maine 2 weeks ...and now family visiting for 2 weeks. I'm cooking and getting ready for 11 month old grandson who nearly is walking.

Spotlight Gallery & Sculpture Garden News

Fishing Boat, 24 x 24 Inches Oil on wood

An exhibit " Equanimity with Water" - 17 paintings by Candy Barr is on display in the Spotlight Gallery through the end of October.

Well known for her plein air paintings, figures and murals, Candy Barr's paintings are captured alla prima, fresh in color, and reflect an immediate response to the subjects being painted.  Inevitable changes of light force her to paint spontaneously with animated brushwork.  Intense observation for accurate draftsmanship and prolific production deepens and insures her sense of place.

Also, a reception will be held in conjunction with Montpelier's Art Walk, and will include new works  currently being installed in our Sculpture Garden.  The new exhibit will feature the works of 6 Vermont artists and will be on view until 2013.

Music by Mayfly and a special presentation of the first-ever Arthur Williams Award for Meritorious Service in the Arts.

SAVE THE DATE - Sculpture Garden & Spotlight Gallery Reception October 7th from 4-7 PM, as part of Montpelier Art Walk.  Mingle with artists, enjoy refreshments and listen to music by Mayfly.  We hope you will join us!

The Spotlight Gallery and Sculpture Garden are located at 136 State Street, Montpelier, Vermont.  Gallery hours are Monday thru Friday 8am to 4:30pm.

Small Point Dock - #7211

8 x 10 inches Oil on canvas

You always have such hopes... this one got away from me with wind changes and probably the scale of the boats and distance. I've got to figure out the depth of values better in the water. I'm engrossed with the spacing of boats still.

Lobster Boats Big Wood Island - #7111

8 x 10 inches Oil on canvas

I thought I'd originally put the foreground boat in, and later removed it. The water and wind change as do the directions of the boats.
The arrangement of spacing is interesting to me, and I hope this will inform larger paintings from this kind of study along with the photos I took.
