Connecting Landscapes - #51711

48 x 96 inches - Oil/Mixed Media on canvas
Detail Bottom Middle

There are 5 paint by number paintings embedded into this larger painting on canvas along with a reversed needlepoint. It seemed like a good idea at the time! It was exhibited at the Stratton Arts Festival over 10 years ago when they had an annual juried state wide contemporary art show.

It still looks great, and would be fantastic in a conference room or lobby wall!

Table Mesa

16 x 20 inches Oil on canvas

A previous post, but this seemed a bit flat, and I couldn't think that I had been a bit rained out that day. Returning last week, it was a sunny day, hardly the same light conditions, but I think it was improved.

Here's where I was set up the first overcast day.

Rushing Water

11 x 14 inches Oil on birch

Rushing river over rocks ...cannot be anymore exciting. The water has been high with all the rain we have had in Vermont this summer.

River Rainy Day

8 x 10 inches Oil on canvas board

We were standing under Rt 100 ..a tall bridge
that protected us from the lightening, heavy rain
and wetness. A few canoers and kayakers went
by at one point. It was wild how the light
would change so incredibly every 15 minutes.
The clouds were doing some wild shapes.
It was like painting a movie while it was going.
I could have come up with 4 different paintings
but the greys were interesting with
occasional pops of color as the rain would
periodically stop.

And the fish would jump and make a loud
SPLASH!

Stowe Church

16 x 20 inches Oil on canvas

Available from Vermont Fine Art Gallery

details of final painting

This was a nice departure from the arid scenes in
Arizona and the nudes!

Feeling a bit guilty with my friends
left behind that are
working hard to keep warm, heat a studio
and maintain sanity
in the dark days of winter.

Big Drop

16" x 16" Oil on canvas

Another day by the rushing water.
The sound the falling water makes is so loud,
and has an irregular rhythm as it falls
in uneven amounts but steady.
My underpainting of orange is so perfect
with all the moss green, grey rocks and dark shadows.
I'll post another stage most likely. I miss the orange
and brightness with warm.

Victoria Falls

18" x 18" Oil on canvas

Process

This was such a stupendous site, listening to the rushing water and figuring out a composition quickly. I may need to go back into this to get the color back in the earlier layout above.

Summer River

12" x 12" Oil

Summer rivers are the best.
the water changes color constantly,
from green to red to blue reflecting the sky...
wondrous with the rocks.
