Desert Palms

6 x 6 inches Oil on birch

$125 + S/H

Same location as yesterday near Thousand Palms. These were the first Washington Palms I ever saw (I think they were called?)in California that were so different after visiting my parents in Florida many years, and seeing the scrawny pruned palms, these unpruned seemed so majestic! They resembled Lion manes to me. Very regal and stately in a group.

Mountains in Rain

7 x 22 inches Oil on birch

OOps, I've misplaced my camera, so I'm digging into archives to post until I find it!
~It's hiding~
I was standing by my car with light drizzle in the mountains, on a back highway that had this beautiful view of these incredible mountains that I was searching for a good spot to paint.

After getting out of car, there was trash that had been tossed out of people's windows driving by for years. From diapers to cans to plastic wrappers of every kind. There was a fence for animals somewhere and all the time I just kept hoping the truckers whizzing past wouldn't be interested in me painting and stop to look. I've never really painted in such a remote spot since. I kept close to my car just to feel I had a refuge in case. The trash all over just gave me the sense of people not caring about anyone else. This was east of Palm Springs near Thousand Palms.

Outside Parris

8 x 23 inches Oil on birch SOLD

Detail

This was my first painting in the mountains I did in 2001. I was searching for the perfect
rolling hills I had seen pictures of, and outside the town of Parris CA was it.

So close to the brink of the day~ it was totally dark a minute later. Not always so smart or lucky (!) to be out searching for a place to paint,so close to sunset and find it in time to capture that last light. Kind of fun to be out exploring with no map and not really knowing where you're going. Just following the landscape.
