Around the Bend -#11113 by Candy Barr

8 x 10 inches Oil on canvas board

$175.+ S/H $12.

So to further elaborate on light presence with blog posts....aside from having to get new laptop, and set up, I had to develop new systems for containing all my photos on external hard drive along with another one for back up.  And then merge my iphoto and Aperture programs, and now I have to learn about Aperture, and consolidate 5 years of photos, albums and files into smooth group.

But really my other excuse for being absent aside from having all the technical difficulties, is that not only have I gained a daughter in law in the last year and a half, I'm now a grandmother!  And I don't have to describe all the wonders and thrills to fellow grandparents. This transition gave me 6 trips to Los Angeles: to an engagement party, a bridal shower, a wedding,  a baby shower, the baby's arrival, and renovation of new home and more baby... I'm heading out again next week too because renovation of kitchen still in progress...It's been a great distraction from posting on blog during that time period.

Let's see what the new year brings!

Perhaps the distance has given me better handling of values and color!

McDowell Vista - #21211

8 x 10 inches Oil on canvas

$125. +S/H

McDowell paint out today. About 15-20 painters came out for celebration of this conservancy.

There were hundreds of hikers, and two fellows with helmets riding unicycles!! hello? Over rocks and uphill trails.. what I would have given to have had my camera and taken quick video for You Tube. Unbelievable.

Since I'm getting ready to exhibit my work Saturday Jan 29 at the Scottsdale Ranch Community Center
I'm busy framing work up. Hence the framed views. They look different don't they? Do you like the liners, the matting part for paintings? Gold, black, floaters? SO many choices...I'd love to hear from any of you!

Joshua trees and yucca, in the desert below the Calico Hills

This was one beautiful place to paint.

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area just outside of Las Vegas Nevada!
There is an alternative to being inside and gambling...outside and painting.

This spot is from the Calico Hills - a large outcrop of eroded red Aztec sandstone, excellent for climbing. There are several overlooks, and trails for the more energetic. The top of the ridge has good views over the colorful Calico Basin at the far side, and of all Las Vegas 15 miles to the south - as ever the distinctive shapes of the casinos are clearly recognizable.
  • Calico Tanks - the tanks (also known as tinajas) are natural cavities in the sandstone which hold water for some time after rainfall;

Four Peaks Desert Wash

12 x12 inches Oil on canvas

Found a few desert paintings that I'll repost this week.
We've just heard that Tonta State Park sites will be closing due to budgetary cuts and these spots are going to be unavailable to paint soon. It's really crushing not to have access to these wild natural spots.

Desert Palms

6 x 6 inches Oil on birch

$125 + S/H

Same location as yesterday near Thousand Palms. These were the first Washington Palms I ever saw (I think they were called?)in California that were so different after visiting my parents in Florida many years, and seeing the scrawny pruned palms, these unpruned seemed so majestic! They resembled Lion manes to me. Very regal and stately in a group.

Sage Brush at Pebble Beach

16 x 20 inches Oil on canvas

This is at Tonto State Park, along the Salt River
Beautiful back lit sage brush against the
Goldfield Mountain Range.
Pebble beach parking area is one
before Bulldog Canyon pullover.

Morning light changing quickly

I'd like to work more into the mountains and perhaps get
some more definition loosely with background around
river in general. Pretty spot listening to the rushing river.
Bottlebrush in bloom and birds all over singing

Cisco ~ Horse portrait

8 x 10 inches Oil on canvas board ~ Final

Better contrast, brightened up, and
simplified composition

in process ~
at the rail which gets eliminated and the bit of building

Well they are a moving target, but it was surely fun
to paint studies of horses.

The riders come locally on Sunday mornings,
tie up their horse and have coffee together, having
riden together earlier.

The owners of these horses came out
and rode off before I could get the pinto in.
