Morning Grand Canyon #3613 by Candy Barr

24 x 24 inches Oil on Canvas  SOLD

This was done on location, beginning at sunrise with the early morning light and shadows still coming into canyon.   Previously posted, but I thought it related to yesterday's post of the desert wash with the deep morning shadows.
Painting on site at the Grand Canyon is extraodinary.. so much to see and get lost in...magnificence the scale....

Grand Canyon Sunset #21613 by Candy Barr

24 x 24 inches Oil on canvas SOLD

Painting the Grand Canyon is similar to being in a meditative state..  although this one is unavailable, I  have another in the works.

Grand Canyon Eastern Gorge #11213 by Candy Barr

12 x 12 inches Oil on cradled birch plywood

I did this on location, just east of the park along the road you exit from Grand Canyon along Rt 64,
breathtaking views.  It was previously a tad monochromatic so I brightened it up a tad.

$275 +S/H $12.

East of Grand Canyon

10 x 10 inches Oil on cradled wood panel

$225. + S/H

If you travel out of the canyon park, along
the road is this great crack in the earth.
Just when you think you've seen everything
in the park itself! There's another
famous "crack" in Taos..the gorge..

Grand Canyon Dusk

24 x 48 inches Oil on wrapped canvas

Grand Canyon Dusk - completed SOLD

Detail
Detail ~ This painting was put on hold until I returned to Arizona, only to be completed this week.

Painting the canyon is so enthralling...I forget how wonderful it was to get absorbed in the
cracks and fissures of the rocks. (see how helpful it is to have studied human anatomy?)

Grand Canyon Dusk

24" x 36" Oil on canvas

There were some additional gold touches in the sky and
warming of the foreground shadow.
We're driving back to Vermont, and I have to stop
posting and painting, so next time Vermont.
Happy Spring all meanwhile.

Grand Canyon Dusk -process

2' x 4' Oil on canvas
in process

It's coming along..
Trying to get the right side foreground next,
and juggle the deepest shadow colors
with some glazing...
And it's too tempting to start fantasizing images
on top of the point: the wrapped Indian in a blanket ,
or maybe some Warrior yoga posture.
And then there's the juxtaposition icon:
a shopping cart.

Grand Canyon Process

Detail

2' x 4' in process

I'm hoping to get through this in the next couple of weeks.
It's like putting a puzzle together. It feels great as areas
and colors click together. And while I'm doing it, I'm
already thinking of another Canyon painting. It's
such a great place, and painting there is the ultimate
plein air experience.

Canyon Wall

16" x 20" Oil on canvas

$675 +S/H

First version posted 1.25.08.

Canyon colors and depth continue to inspire.

Well I did something pretty stupid on Wednesday.
I lost my two paintings that I just posted this week.
They were in two pizza boxes to travel in the car...
& ended up left by the driveway where I unloaded.
I had a few trips to my studio, and was sidetracked
before the last load: the paintings!
SO, the good news was I photographed and posted them...
the bad news is they are either in some dumpster,
or on someone's walls (I hope the latter).

Canyon Shadow

10" x 10" Oil on masonite

$125 + S/H

This was from sunrise at Bulldog Canyon
and I enjoyed the freshness of the brush quality
and range of blues and decided to not work into it
more and possibly deaden it.

Grand Canyon Dusk

24 " x 24" Oil on canvas

This was posted last year about this time, and went to
a gallery that closed in the fall when the owner retired,
so it's back in my studio again.
I'm thinking of painting a rectangular one a bit larger.

$1900. + S/H

Grand Canyon AM-process

IN process 24" x 24" Oil sold
Not quite complete. Desert View Point on east end of west rim and really challenging in plein air to get it all down at once this size. Needs some work.

The memory of painting here from sunrise with a picnic and birds soaring and coming by for some grapes was pretty exceptional though.
