Superstition Mountains - #3614 by Candy Barr

Detail

16 x 20 inches Oil on canvas

It was raining and I was standing under a ramada  when I did this originally.
It has seemed gloomy in my studio, so I gave the sky and some other areas a face lift.

This can be purchased from my gallery in downtown Scottsdale

Big Mountain at Salt River #11614 by Candy Barr

  11 x 14 inches Oil
Facing east in the morning this view is dark and in total shadow until about 9am or so, when the sun starts cracking over the mountain ridge which runs north into Bulldog Canyon. This is part of Tonto National Forest and luckily for us is still open after many park shut downs.

Here's another done of the Salt River at same spot, and I'll post again in a few days by itself.

Superstition Mts Rain #3913 by Candy Barr

16 x 20 inches Oil on canvas

Painting in the drizzling rain with temperatures in mid 40's... Arizona Plein Air Painters event but only 4 of us showed up at Lost Dutchman's Park in Apache Junction.  A nice part of Arizona
and here was framed art in the restaurant we went in after painting!
We picked a good spot to paint I guess! Looks like same saguaro some years ago.

Chuck Prudhomme (best in show last year at the Casa Grande Paint Out)  with his rig....and Toni Perrin modeling her painting gloves for cold weather and a peak into her customized Art Studio in back of her Jeep.  Magnetized containers help to keep everything in place... so cool! Not in photos another good painter Stevie Denny! she had to leave pronto.

Spur Cross Creek - #22411

8 x 10 inches Oil on canvas

$125. + S/H

It was pretty spot with a forest of saguaros just to the left. Having water to paint in Arizona is such a treat, that a group of us chose to paint here.

Ready to Ride - #2211A

11 x 14 inches Oil on canvas

$275 SOLD

This still needs the reins painted in dropped on ground and a few other ties around the girth.
This was from a photo that Toni Perrin loaned me as we painted in her studio today. Chicken hearts our Wed Plein air Troops...Heck 31 degrees and who knows what the wind chill was ...plenty windy.
There were icicles on the fountain in our courtyard this afternoon...
and they cancelled the Waste Management Phoenix Open today. It could be worse..we could be stuck in Chicago on Lake Shore Drive. Did you see those pictures? There are abandoned cars in drifts unable to move, and clearly a snow plow cannot get to them...I suppose they'll have to wait until spring or hand dig out the entire street!!

This was originally painted at the DBG in Phoenix and posted on 3.3.10

Since I'm getting ready to exhibit my work Saturday Jan 29 at the Scottsdale Ranch Community Center
I'm busy framing work up. Hence the framed views. They look different don't they? Do you like the liners, the matting part for paintings? Gold, black, floaters? SO many choices...I'd love to hear from any of you!

Table Mesa

16 x 20 inches Oil on canvas

A previous post, but this seemed a bit flat, and I couldn't think that I had been a bit rained out that day. Returning last week, it was a sunny day, hardly the same light conditions, but I think it was improved.

Here's where I was set up the first overcast day.

Table Mesa

16 x 20 inches Oil on canvas

Raining day but just set up the umbrella in this lovely spot. A week earlier the water was side to side in this vista and behind me the road was destroyed with piles of rocks carried down in the last high water. Evidently a ditched old pick up truck is no longer there... somewhere further down the river!

Wadsworth Pond

8 x 10 inches Oil on hardboard

Officially this is Wadsworth Pond, but because it's at Prickly Mountain, it's usually called Prickly Pond. I planted the willow tree 20 years ago, thinking it would have long willows to swing on, like I had growing up. Well, turns out there are many varieties of willow trees, and this one is just a stunted kind. Hmmm, I guess it has a distinctive shape nevertheless, just not as functional as I was hoping for.
