Pond Reflection - #81313 by Candy Barr

 8 x 10 Inches Oil on canvas

This was demo for my Plein Air Workshop that started today.
We had to begin indoors due to the heavy rain, and were lucky enough
after lunch to be able to paint outside

 on location

How many plein air painters do you see with a Julian Easel strapped
to their BMW motorcycle?  And Jim arrived in the rain coming from
1 hour away in Calais!

Almost as good as George Coll in Colorado
traveling to his painting sites with his two pack llamas hauling his gear!

Back from Maine with gorgeous weather. Sometimes too windy to set up on the beach, but perfect for blowing laundry on the line.

Discovered a butane mosquito repellent to paint with in the deep woods.
 What a break through!

Spotlight Gallery & Sculpture Garden News

Fishing Boat, 24 x 24 Inches Oil on wood

An exhibit " Equanimity with Water" - 17 paintings by Candy Barr is on display in the Spotlight Gallery through the end of October.

Well known for her plein air paintings, figures and murals, Candy Barr's paintings are captured alla prima, fresh in color, and reflect an immediate response to the subjects being painted.  Inevitable changes of light force her to paint spontaneously with animated brushwork.  Intense observation for accurate draftsmanship and prolific production deepens and insures her sense of place.

Also, a reception will be held in conjunction with Montpelier's Art Walk, and will include new works  currently being installed in our Sculpture Garden.  The new exhibit will feature the works of 6 Vermont artists and will be on view until 2013.

Music by Mayfly and a special presentation of the first-ever Arthur Williams Award for Meritorious Service in the Arts.

SAVE THE DATE - Sculpture Garden & Spotlight Gallery Reception October 7th from 4-7 PM, as part of Montpelier Art Walk.  Mingle with artists, enjoy refreshments and listen to music by Mayfly.  We hope you will join us!

The Spotlight Gallery and Sculpture Garden are located at 136 State Street, Montpelier, Vermont.  Gallery hours are Monday thru Friday 8am to 4:30pm.

This one of Blueberry Lake near me was done before they removed Raymond Gow's house and it became a Town Park.

Anyone in Mystic Connecticut area Tuesday wishing to paint? I'll be there all day with easel if you want to join me?

Spur Cross Creek - #22411

8 x 10 inches Oil on canvas

$125. + S/H

It was pretty spot with a forest of saguaros just to the left. Having water to paint in Arizona is such a treat, that a group of us chose to paint here.

Big Wood Island, Maine

10 x 10 inches Oil on canvas

This duel subject offered an interesting challenge in composition.
The foreground rock has intrigue to offset the mystery of the faraway island retreat.
I like the intimacy of the scale of this painting.

Beautiful view on Big Wood Island from West Point Beach.
Kids had a blast...

Two Dinghys

10 x 10 inches Oil on canvas

$535 +S/H

This photo of the flat light day was taken off a computer screen, since I didn't have my camera that day while painting. If you notice the keel in the front boat, I adjusted the line because it looked "off" the way it really is - see in the photo? It doesn't seem to line up with the bow! Go figure. Unfortunately in this computer photo, you can't really see the colors in shadows etc. That's a good reason to paint from life!!

This was taken day later on brighter day.

Still Dinghy

20 x 20 inches Oil on canvas Framed

$1100 + S/H

OK, here's the dinghy that was tied at the stern I mentioned in the previous post to keep it from sashaying around. Luckily I had it down pretty much before the lobsterman returned to dock to put his boat next to it and untied it.
There was a bright yellow label on stern and bright blue recycle bin on dock that I left out, because the primary color thing would have really been unbelievable. It made for a pretty good photograph though.

Available from my gallery in Stowe: Vermont Fine Art

I like all the stuff on the docks almost as much as the boats themselves.
