Sheriff Samuel Stout - #32215 by Candy Barr

11 x 14 inches Oil on birch ply

This has been revisited from Glendale Plein Air competition last year during the Glendale Chocolate Festival.  And from the Glendale AZ tourism: Territorial Sheriff (bronze sculpture) At the Public Safety and Courts Complex, Bill Nebeker’s 1990 sculpture commemorates Samuel Stout, a Glendale resident and Maricopa County’s 14th sheriff. Glendale dedicated the sculpture to the “men and women of today who, as members of the Court and the Fire and Police Departments, continue the honorable tradition of preserving the peace and enhancing the public safety.”

Brandon Hamilton abc news #22513 by Candy Barr

We had a Plein Air promo for abc news today for the Saturday March 2 Paris in Spring event in Glendale Arizona (referred to in Phoenix as the West Valley...)

By the time I found the location (they have 58th ST and 58 Ave,)someone was posing, which seemed a good route to take considering all of the paraphrenalia in the yard....
Here's Alex Pekala again, BEST IN SHOW artist from Glendale paint out Feb 9
And here's Mauriel Morejon who came in 2nd place at the Glendale paint out,   a well known muralist in Phoenix
Here we all are condensed for the ease of cameraman

Beginning portrait #2813 by Candy Barr

24 x 36  Inches Oil on deep wrapped canvas
If you notice, the model has a GIGANTIC PILLOW on her lap, that she was suggested to use in order to raise her hands up..(this was from the right side of the room unbeknownst to me... so figuring a big pillow on her lap should be substituted for her holding something else...I figured what better to hold than my grandson?  So I couldn't not swap out the look of model's features for Sabra!  But this was the first attempt... the baby's head too small... so the last version baby is bigger and is lower, mom with longer neck as well.. Ran out of time.

But here we have 2 great examples of why the LARGE pillow was needed...  very nice paintings by Jerry and James (both instructors at Scottsdale Artists School)

She Races Motorcycles! #11413 by Candy Barr

 24 x 24 inches Oil on canvas

Detail

During breaks she mentioned to me that she was going to be in a motorcross race on weekend! She and her boyfriend race motorcycles on dirt tracks... there goes the stereotype of biker chicks!  She was completely soft spoken and shy.

Look Away - Youth Portrait - #92611

11 x 14 inches Oil on canvas

cover of The Spirit of Art by Robert Henri
This has always been a favorite for the POW effect of the stunning stare and warm colors.  I'd like to redo mine with this color palette!

Blake - #8611

14 x 16 inches Oil on canvas SOLD

This was earlier stage, before the final above. I tried to soften the braces, enhance the eyes, and get the color better. Blake sat for this entirely which made it great to do, he took breaks every 20 minutes..

Every August 6 I like to do a painting in Memorial for Hiroshima, and entitle them all "That Sheep May Safely Graze"...

Elisabeth - #8111

8 x 10 inches Oil on canvas SOLD

Here's one of the 4 portraits I did at the gallery today.
The owner Elisabeth Wooden Prior sat for this.

She has such gorgeous hair, I didn't want it to define her in this portrait done on a 8 x 10 size canvas, so I cropped the image to frame her pretty face.

Sparkle Sleeping - #6111

4.5 x 6.5 inches Oil on wood block

$99. +S/H
My next door neighbor was off mowing someone's yard when a lightening storm began, and his cute doggy Sparkle made her way into my studio for comfort! We enjoyed each other's presence equally I'd say. The sun coming through my south skylight lit up a corner of the rug for a bit...
