It's 16' x 24' on plywood panels we varnished to withhold weather.  It's held up pretty well!

With the bucket machine Ward Joyce & I used to install the 16 panels.

Gold Canyon #11514 by Candy Barr

 11 x 14 inches Oil

A few of us met in Gold Canyon nearly in Superior AZ to paint.
So many interesting views of washes, far away mountains, and plenty of cacti everywhere.

Eating on the patio of the Gold Canyon Golf Club felt very civilized.  Sounds like a varied and challenging course.  With my daughter Trillium Sellers as a professional golf instructor, I have to keep up with this side of nature! (Proud mama alert: There is a full page with her in this month's Jan 2014 Golf Digest, p 25 as Best Young Teacher, with lesson
"Your Go-to Greenside Shot (make your first option the simplest one).
She's good.  )
Which makes me remember when my 2 kids were in middle school during one summer they played in JR Golf League.  That meant once a week, they would play at a different golf course.  After I watched their drives and walked part of the first hole with them, I would meander off to paint some vista along the course, finishing in time to watch them play out the 18th hole.  Everybody had a good time! And certainly it was fun for me to see a different course this way each week.  I remember her coming in fifth in her division at the end of the summer.

Mackerel Platter

18 x 24 inches Oil on canvas

There's a fish story here...

a dingy was untied at one end (that I had tethered to keep in place) leaving it to blow about, which altered my "model"...so I chided the lobsterman and his helper when they came up the ramp past me and my easel plein air set up, "can't get no respect! You moved my subject!"
So he kindly asked a bit later if I liked Mackerel...and I gleefully said "YES!" It was a real beauty,

but my Michael said they are Heck to filet and very bloody, so I decided to paint it a few times instead of eating it! Best served in sushi probably if you're going to eat it.. (actually I have a can with red label on it that holds pencils with picture of mackerel on it from years ago). The story just never ends.

Chilean Verde in Bloom

8 x 10 inches Oil on canvas

This blooming tree so resembles Forsythia in the spring back east.

It must have been planted in the 40's at this large size... magnificent.

Pierre and Mary Moffroid's Garden

9" x 12" Oil on canvas

Today was the Art in the Garden Tour for
the Vermont Arts Festival. The rain
came right after I took this photo, and it
seems a little dreamy with all the soft edges.
I think we need to solidify something,
either the trees in background, the house,
or the gardens around the house.
What's your vote?

I'll return next Thursday to have another
day painting on the site for the second
group for the Garden Tour. I'll pick a
different spot. So many wonderful areas
in Pierre and Mary's garden.

There was a lovely luncheon
at Susan & Peter MacLaren's Westhill B & B
for the bus load of garden and art fans!

Boojum Tree

१२" x१२" oil on canvas

Painted at the Desert Botanical Gardens today in Phoenix AZ.
This is the founder's original home from 1939, Gertrude Divine Webster.

Her dream was, “First, we wish to conserve our Arizona flora
—fast being destroyed.
Second, we wish to establish plantings for students and botanists,
and third, we wish to make a compelling attraction.”

The boojum tree was planted in the first year. The boojum is taken
from
Lewis Carroll's poem "The Hunting of the Snark".

We set up first thing in the morning, before the sun
had come over the mountain. By the time it did come, a nice
shadow hit the cactus.
