It started off sunny and became a bit chilly. Beautiful spot to paint.

Canoeing

It was painted in summer, but this is fall view

I'm so used to working on location, and painting scenes as I see them without editing. I know for composition you are told to move a tree or rock etc, but with my extensive photography background, I never felt cropping was legitimate when making a good photograph, so I've just assumed doing the same thing with a painting is not as good either. Isn't that something? And I thought touching up on paintings done on location was a no-no. It's about time, I get OVER that syndrome ...don't you think? So all I have to do is have a general flavor of what I have in mind, then alter whatever needs adjusting in order to capture what I'm going after. So we'll see how the future paintings unfold. ( Painters are funny aren't we?)

Since I'm getting things cleared out and cleaned for winter skiers, I'm not going to be doing much painting for the next month. Then we'll be on the road, and guests everywhere, so not too much painting either. Perhaps I'll travel with pastels ?

The Round Barn Inn is such a beautifully preserved
home, garden and barn. I will be in their art show.

Returning for the 19th year, the Art in the Round Barn is a juried show displaying works of the finest artists throughout New England. Open to the public daily, these fine works are on display and maybe purchased on site.

• Sunday Sept 20 from 4:00 - 7:00pm - Artist's Reception - The annual kick-off of the Art Show. Come see the premier of the art show and meet some of the artists.
• Monday Sept 21 - October 12, 2009 - Art in the Round Barn -Artwork on display and open to the public daily from 9:30am - 5:00pm

18th Green

This was done a while back, in California at a Rancho Mirage golf course standing by a blooming lemon tree that filled the air with such ambrosia, it was divine. Painting water, ducks diving, next to the 18th green, seeing the reflection of palm trees and the mountains in the water. It was pretty sublime.

It was lightly raining, but the canopy of trees
seemed to keep it pretty dry.



I sometimes use 2 Masterson palettes
for larger paintings, when I'm using
larger brushes. Blues and greens in one,
and reds and yellows in the other.



I didn't do any touch ups or
make changes in the studio.
This was it.
It's kind of exhilarating
working in the woods with
the sounds of birds, wind
through the trees and the
sounds of rain in the pools.
Even though you are
alone, yet relating to your
surroundings, there is a lot of
company in nature!
