a bit windy but nice weather otherwise and about 2,000+ traffic between 10-4.
I made some new friends and enjoyed the reunion with old friends.

This was started again at the Colin Page workshop as a 45 minute study. Hello...what was I thinking seashell
8 x 10 ? I completed it back in studio to give it more distinct personality. Anyone know what kind of shell this is? I think this may be my first still life that was more than a study... (I'm not including interiors that have a vase on a window sill).

Again, this was from Colin Page 20 minute exercise, his was first 20 minute lay in of lemons that I felt needed more contrast with background, and right lemon didn't get finished. Brevity of brushstrokes, stepping away from canvas between strokes, taking a long breath... Making every mark count and as accurate to color value as possible. Adjust as you go.

These two views of same apple front lit, and back lit from natural light were done in a Colin Page workshop this past weekend. What a wonderful instructor and terrific two days in Damiscotta Maine.

I'll be posting some more from this workshop although I'm sharing a phone line with 5 women and it's dial up so it's a challenge unless I do it at 4am~!

After traveling by car from AZ back to VT over last 4 weeks, ready to post again.

Springtime was nice on the travels, but not much in bloom upon return to Vermont other than daffodils.

Trees will be much later. It was a wet and cold April.

So the next day I painted this version smaller over a longer period of time in the direct sun. I froze it after that to save to put into a tide pool painting later in the week.

There's a fish story here...


a dingy was untied at one end (that I had tethered to keep in place) leaving it to blow about, which altered my "model"...so I chided the lobsterman and his helper when they came up the ramp past me and my easel plein air set up, "can't get no respect! You moved my subject!"
So he kindly asked a bit later if I liked Mackerel...and I gleefully said "YES!" It was a real beauty,

but my Michael said they are Heck to filet and very bloody, so I decided to paint it a few times instead of eating it! Best served in sushi probably if you're going to eat it.. (actually I have a can with red label on it that holds pencils with picture of mackerel on it from years ago). The story just never ends.
