This was started again at the Colin Page workshop as a 45 minute study. Hello...what was I thinking seashell
8 x 10 ? I completed it back in studio to give it more distinct personality. Anyone know what kind of shell this is? I think this may be my first still life that was more than a study... (I'm not including interiors that have a vase on a window sill).

Continuation of gray studies with Colin Page from last week. I found these outdoor value studies to be a really good reminder of priorities when challenged by plein air and changing light (or movement as well in case of water and boats!~)

Another 20 minute study in grey. With the wind changing and the boat heading in a different direction continuously consequently, it's a challenge to get the alignment just right. You can see how this might have come out very different had I painted it from the photograph. You catch prominent factors when working from life, squinting and catching the values more easily. In a photograph, the values have already been flattened out and less color is available to see.

The assignment for this 20 minute painting was to count your brushstrokes and make everyone count. This was done in 20. I filled my brush with ALOT of paint before each stoke to get maximum coverage! We were using a large #8 flat brush.
I liked how I placed this pepper sneaking behind the edge of this box.A scene from Colin Page's workshop last weekend during the cold and drizzly rainy day.

These two views of same apple front lit, and back lit from natural light were done in a Colin Page workshop this past weekend. What a wonderful instructor and terrific two days in Damiscotta Maine.

I'll be posting some more from this workshop although I'm sharing a phone line with 5 women and it's dial up so it's a challenge unless I do it at 4am~!
